Peddler’s Village Grand Illumination Celebration

Light up your holidays Nov 19-21 with a magical holiday light display and Merchants Open House Weekend. Pictured here is a Peddler’s Village shop all dressed up for the holidays! (photo courtesy of Peddler’s Village)

Peddler’s Village, in Lahaska, Pennsylvania, is a year-round destination in beautiful Bucks County.  They will be starting the holiday season with a festive event on November 19, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, by turning on the Grand Illumination Celebration.  Santa Claus will be turning on the lights himself at 6:15pm, which will create a magical, dazzling wonderland of one million lights illuminating the Village.  That evening, there will be festive music and complimentary refreshments to enjoy.  Find hot cider heated in old fashioned kettles along with marshmallows toasted over an open fire.  Children and adults will surely enjoy the strolling musicians playing holiday tunes all evening.  What a wonderful way to begin the holiday season with your family and loved ones.  It will be a memorable event, especially for the little ones.  Santa Claus will also be available in Giggleberry Fair on weekends waiting for children’s holiday wish lists and letters.

The 30th Annual Gingerbread House Competition and Display in the Village Gazebo will feature more than 100 incredible creations of gingerbread and confection. Admission is free and the display will be open through January 1, 2011 during regular shopping hours.   The beauty in this Gingerbread House competition is that there are categories for all levels of skills, so next to the expertly designed and decorated house will be a just as beautiful creation by a young child.  It is amazing what these bakery artists can create with some cookie dough, icing, and candies!

Visitors are also invited to preview the merchants’ distinctive choices for holiday gift giving to kick off the Merchants Open House weekend, November 19-21.  Village shopkeepers will welcome visitors with refreshments and something for everyone on your gift list. The Village’s extended holiday shopping hours are November 19 through December 30, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Visiting Peddler’s Village during the holiday season is a tradition for many families.  Seeing it in the evening or nighttime is just magical as the trees just glow beautifully with so many lights.  With free parking and no admission fees, it makes for a budget friendly outing with children who will enjoy being able to run around the lit pathways and see the waterwheel outlined in lights.  There are six restaurants at Peddler’s Village for dining, and of there are several specialty food shops, including the Town Crier Bakery where the cupcakes and other baked goods will delight all.

Peddler’s Village is located at Routes 202 and Street Road in Lahaska, Bucks County.  For more information, please visit or call 215-794-4000.

Exploring Peddler's Village

Congratulations to Jeanine L. on winning the passes to Giggleberry Fair.  Look out for an email!

Have you ever been to Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, PA?  It is a lovely collection of shops and gardens spread out over 42 acres and easily walked via the brick pathways.  I was a young child the first time I visited Peddler’s Village and it has been a favorite place of my family’s to visit throughout the year ever since then.  There is no “good” time of year to visit, as every season brings something special to this Bucks County landmark.

As part of a mommy/daddy blogger event, I had a chance to visit Peddler’s Village again with my son and some fellow bloggers.  We started off our day at Giggleberry Fair, which is an indoor play area specifically for family entertainment.  There is a restored 1922 Philadelphia Toboggan Company Grand Carousel, which may just be my favorite thing there (I just love a good merry-go-round!)  There is the amazing Giggleberry Mountain that has berry blasters and vacuums to use with 30,000 foam balls.  There is a six-level, three story slide and an obstacle course filled with netting mazes.  The kids in attendance had a blast shooting out foam balls at the parents below.  My son loved the vacuum—cleaning up the balls so that the big kids could re-load their blasters.  The game room at Giggleberry has a variety of video and skill games, such as skee-ball, a favorite of mine.  All of the games are suitable for all ages.  These games use tokens for play and many award tickets to exchange for prizes.   For the littlest ones there is Discovery Land, which reminds me of some of the exhibits from the Please Touch Museum.  My son liked dressing up like a fire fighter and driving the big fire truck.

After a couple of hours of fun at Giggleberry Fair, the bloggers group of approximately 70 parents, kids and friends strolled through Peddler’s Village’s many pathways to learn a bit about the specialty shops there.  There are 70 independently owned shops there featuring all sorts of merchandise.  The shops are unique, specialty stores that you probably won’t find anywhere else.  While having my son there was fun, I really love going to Peddler’s Village with my mom for a day of shopping and lunch.  There are many fun stores to explore and some beautiful clothing boutiques.

Our group walk landed us at Sweet Lorraine’s Café & Bar.  For lunch we dined on a delicious buffet meal that featured a variety of sandwiches, salads, a fresh pasta station and hot mac n’ cheese.  I’ve been to Sweet Lorraine’s before for lunch and both times I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.  The staff was extremely gracious and accommodating, considering how many little ones were filling the restaurant.  There is a great patio area that makes outdoor dining fun in nice weather.  There are five other restaurants in Peddler’s Village, each with its own style.

Peddler’s Village is known for its fun festivals held throughout the year.  The upcoming Scarecrow Festival starts on September 6th and runs through October 24th.  During this time visitors can view hand-crafted scarecrows that are competing in competition.  During the winter holidays, be sure to check out the beautiful gingerbread houses on display inside the enclosed gazebo.  Our family makes our annual holiday trek to Peddler’s Village in December to see them and all of the beautiful holiday lights that illuminate the Village at night.

After lunch, the bloggers dispersed, but I ran into many of them at the Town Crier Bakery checking out all of the amazing sweets and beautiful cakes.  My son picked out a cupcake with a cherry on top, which he devoured!  We stopped off at The Fun Place to check out their display of toy cars and the Cookery Ware Shop to see their assortment of cookie cutters.  We had a fun time exploring today!  Thanks to the folks at Peddler’s Village and to Chrissy at Mama’s Little Helper for arranging the blogger day!

The next time you are planning for a day of much needed mom-shopping time or a family fun-filled outing, consider visiting Peddler’s Village.  Check out their website for their calendar of events

Peddler’s Village provided me with 2 day passes to Giggleberry Fair to pass along to one lucky reader.  Please leave a comment below describing something you would like to see when visiting Peddler’s Village, or a favorite memory of a past visit.  This contest will end on August 30 at 11:59pm EST!  The winner will be announced by September 1st.   Good Luck!
